First Lady Melania Trump rarely weighs in on political issues, preferring to concentrate on her family and humanitarian causes she is passionate about.

As First Lady, Mrs. Trump’s humanitarian efforts have centered on children’s well-being, particularly through her Be Best initiative, which promotes children’s social, emotional, and physical health; online safety (including anti-cyberbullying and protection from non-consensual imagery/deepfakes); and awareness of opioid abuse.

As part of Be Best, her flagship cause is Fostering the Future, emphasizing support for children in or aging out of the foster care system.

But in a rare public statement, Mrs. Trump weighed in on one of Tuesday’s US Supreme Court decisions.

She praised the decision to allow states to ban transgender biological males from girls’ sports in a massive win for women.

The court ruled in a 6-3 opinion that West Virginia and Idaho’s laws banning biological males from girls’ sports did not violate the Constitution’s equal protection clause or Title IX. Two biological male athletes, represented by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Cooley Legal, sued the states to allow them to compete with girls.

The First Lady shared on X, ““As many of you may know, I fully support the LGBTQIA+ community. But we must also ensure that our female athletes are protected and respected.”  – MELANIA, #1 NYT Bestseller, (p. 156)

“The U.S. Supreme Court has now legally confirmed this opinion: “Under Title IX and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, may schools maintain women’s and girls’ sports for biological females?”

“The answer is yes.”

“America, we can support the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and also protect opportunities for female athletes.”

“Respect everyone and keep girls’ sports fair.”

“Both ideals are essential.”

The First Lady also shared a link to the decision, which read, in part, “Title IX transformed American sports and American life. Enacted in 1972, that landmark law promoted equal opportunity for female student-athletes and has facilitated the extraordinary growth of women’s and girls’ sports over the past 54 years,” Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote in the Majority opinion.

“To provide equal opportunity for female athletes, schools do not merely maintain, for example, one soccer team, one basketball team, one ice hockey team, and one lacrosse team that are equally open to female and male athletes.”

“That approach would deny equal opportunity to female athletes because, as all agree, females and males have inherent physical differences relevant to athletic performance.”
