This week, after the terror attack on a synagogue in Michigan, Dem Senator Elissa Slotkin stood in front of TV cameras and said that we need to fund the Department of Homeland Security, which is odd considering she voted against doing that just hours before then.

Democrats are putting American lives at risk with their little shutdown game.

If we had a competent media, someone might ask Ms. Slotkin to explain her comments versus her actions.

Democratic Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin changed her tune on funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Friday after a Lebanese national attacked a Metro Detroit synagogue.

DHS identified the deceased suspect who attacked the Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, as Ayman Mohamed Ghazali, a Lebanese native who became a U.S. citizen in 2016. Slotkin, who voted in favor of continuing the partial shutdown of DHS on Thursday, said during a press conference that DHS needs to be funded because it is an “essential” agency.

“I would say the department, because they are essential workers, they have been at work,” Slotkin said. “Certainly in Michigan, we have a ton of DHS folks, CBP and so they are on the call and they are doing their jobs. Certainly, we need to fund the Department of Homeland Security and we need, in my view, to cut away all the conversation on ICE, which is its own conversation, from all of the core missions at the Department of Homeland Security. But they’re essential, they are on the job and they are working today.”

Vice President J.D. Vance visited Rocky Mount, North Carolina this week and spoke about a number of issues including election integrity and preventing illegal aliens from voting in our elections.

This comes as Senate Republicans are under increasing pressure from voters to pass the SAVE America Act, which would require photo ID and proof of citizenship to vote.

Vance makes an excellent point here noting that Democrats say this never happens, but if that’s true, what is the harm in passing the SAVE America Act?

The Trump administration visited Rocky Mount on Friday afternoon as dozens packed into The Power House to hear Vice President JD Vance speak.

A smaller venue at a historic mill meant a smaller crowd, but not small excitement.

Many supporters told CBS 17 that they were excited to listen to the Vice President in a place that President Donald Trump himself has often visited.

“We are rebuilding the American dream, and we are taking back this country,” Vance said in about a 20-minute speech followed by 15 minutes of questions and answers.

Vance touched on economics, job growth, and the Big Beautiful Bill — with its impacts on North Carolinians.

Democrats have no answer for their opposition to voter ID. The simplest explanation is that they know it will affect their ability to win elections and that is no excuse.

The Chicago Teacher Union is calling for school to be cancelled on May 1st so that teachers, staffers, and even students can spend the day protesting Trump. Someone might want to clue these teachers in to the fact that this is not their job. Not even close.

Students in Chicago can barely read or do math at grade level. Maybe that is because their teachers care more about organizing protests than they do about teaching their students.

Maybe they could save the protests for the summer months when they’re not even working.

Chicago Teachers Union calls for school shutdown on May Day to protest Trump

The Chicago Teachers Union is advocating for a day off for teachers and students on May 1, for the national May Day movement.

May Day is also known as International Worker’s Day, which celebrates workers and advocates for labor rights.

On Wednesday, the union approved a resolution to designate May 1 as the day of “Civic Action and Defense of Public Education,” and seeking support for this from Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago’s Board of Education.

“If we still want to have democracy in the midterms this November, public schools that provide our students with quality education, and unions to defend workers’ rights, then it is up to every Chicagoan to stand up for what we believe in and show the authoritarian billionaire in Washington that when he breaks every rule, we will not go along with business as usual,” CTU Vice President Jackson Potter said in a statement.

The union claimed in the resolution that public education is under attack by “MAGA politicians,” seemingly referring to supporters of President Donald Trump.

The resolution says “public education is facing an unprecedented national assault driven by MAGA politicians, billionaire donors, and corporate interests who seek to privatize our schools, censor educators, ban books, dismantle civil rights protections, criminalize and separate immigrant families, and weaken workers’ unions.”

None of that matters at all. These people were hired to do a specific job and this ain’t it.

Tyler Robinson, the alleged killer of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, has not had the smoothest trial thus far.

And the latest ruling from the judge in the case doesn’t seem likely to make things any smoother for the 22-year-old Robinson.

According to multiple reports, Judge Tony Graf Jr. made two key decisions in the trial of Robinson that likely won’t sit well with the defense.

Perhaps most significantly, Graf ruled against a motion from Robinson’s defense that sought to restrict access to certain court filings, according to Fox News.

The defense was trying to get that evidence stricken before a forthcoming evidentiary hearing.

Graf effectively told Robinson’s defense that it didn’t provide a good enough reason to restrict those filings.

“In balance, the defendant has not provided a sufficient basis for the court to find that the interests favoring closure outweigh the interest favoring an open proceeding and the presumptive right to access,” Graf said on Friday.

He added: “Moreover, as a Utah Supreme Court recognized, even in highly publicized cases, a defendant’s right to a fair trial can be protected through the regular time-honored process for selecting jurors, like enlarging the voir dire of potential jurors, utilizing a detailed juror questionnaire and conducting a thorough voir dire of potential jurors.”

Fox News notes that Robinson’s legal team sought such relief because they felt that certain pieces of evidence might make it impossible to produce a truly unbiased jury, ahead of what’s been a highly publicized case.

“So what we’re talking about is releasing preliminary evidence into the public sphere that has the potential to impact jurors,” defense attorney Staci Visser said. “And it is important enough that we are concerned that it will sway people’s opinions one way or the other.”

She did stress that “our concern here is with selecting an impartial jury.”

Meanwhile, The Center Square is reporting that Judge Graf also ruled against a request from Robinson’s defense team to ban cameras in the courtroom.

That one wasn’t a total loss for Robinson’s legal team, however, as Graf did note that he may yet close certain portions of the April 17 hearing.

He gave Robinson’s defense team until the end of March to notify him of which portions of the trial should be private.

A Utah-based criminal defense attorney not involved with the Robinson case spoke to KUTV-TV and explained why Robinson’s defense team was making such requests.

“The rules of preliminary hearings are far different than the rules at trial. The rules of evidence are different. Hearsay can be admitted,” Skye Lazaro told the outlet. “So, because the rules are so different at a preliminary hearing juncture vs. the trial juncture, a defendant would want to limit the public’s access to things that may or may not be admissible down the road.”

Robinson is accused of shooting and killing Kirk on Sept. 10 during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University.
